Being and doing are more or less the same creature. We believe that we act when in fact all that we do is 'lean' in our preferred direction. We 'activate' that chain of slivers corresponding to our preferred future, nothing more. (It's a 'greener' state of consciousness that we always seek on the other side.)
I don't think that we conflate 'doing' and 'being'. They are actually two sides of the same coin. Whether we think in terms of one or the other depends on the paradigm of reality our awareness occupies.
